Last week, I carried out a test in order to demonstrate traffic flow on one phase of one crossroad with camera data. To use JILIN STREET- GUANGHUA ROAD intersection as an example, i will show u the 4 key steps.

STEP 1: collect available camera data which is clear enough and fit to my processing program, by eyes for sure! (Tough step 1, honestly did spend time and eyesight >_<!!!) After the collection, tell the direction or phase with the help of time, shadow and buildings( admiring myshelf BTW)...

the picture describes data properties included name, time, date, quality and direction etc.

STEP 2: Decide where to put the virtual loop due to the conditions and sevice level of the testing road. For example, corner in figure below could be used to test the outflow from GUANGHUA ROAD into JILIN STREET( phase WEST to SOUTH)

STEP 3: to process, at the same time, watch the error i.e. passengers walking by or same vehicle changing lane.

STEP 4: DRAW the quadrate waves of 2 lanes. Count the vehicles.

These are some pieces of what i have done.Next week, i will give you more integrate datasets across more various periods and locations.
